"After six years its amazing to see the club go from a small open mic to  these large scale shows. The scene has evolved and kept moving at a steady  pace and Fabric is a great place to have a birthday party"  - Kung Fu

Six years ago, schoolmates Sarah Jane and Leo bumped shoulders in-between  changing tube lines, long after school bells had stopped ringing and the  two had lost touch. As they filled in a few blanks, Leo informed Sarah that  he was starting up a hip hop night the next week with their fellow  schoolmate Charlie. Sure enough, a week later Charlie and Leo’s Kung Fu hit  London’s streets like a judo chop to the jaw, and powerfully shook the  city’s hip hop scene with one elegant blow. The crew has since found the  balance in their chi, maintaining a consistent force to push UK hip hop  forward and hosting nights that prove their full awareness of the scene’s  spirit. Kung Fu (roughly translated from Chinese to mean “achievement  through great effort”) has sparred with phenomenal strength to maintain its
stance: six years on and their vibe is just as tight, acts just as fresh,  tunes just as revolutionary. After countless explosive events, they’ve  locked in a solid group of residents - Harry Love, Sarah Love (known back  in the day as Sarah Jane) and MC Mystro – and have presented a UK platform  to legendary artists such as Roots Manuva, Ms Dynamite, Raekwon, Guru and  Wildchild, to name a few. As their birthday rolls around this year, Kung Fu  will celebrate by ditching the cake and cream for a palatable offering of  beats, lyrics and hooks at Fabriclive.

They’ll be partying alongside a notorious crew, including:

 BOOT CAMP CLIK
 **************
Hailing from Brooklyn, the illustrious hip hop group consists of:

-DJ Evil Dee from Black Moon, the group behind 1993’s seminal album “Enta  Da Stage,” a hip hop classic that’s largely credited with the rebirth of  New York hip hop/boom bap. Evil Dee, part of the production team The  Beatminerz, are responsible for the beats behind artists such as the mighty  Mos Def, KRS One and Busta Rhymes.

-Tek and Steele from Smif N Wessum (aka Cocoa Brovaz) hit the ground  running with their debut ‘The Shining’ in 1995. Since then, they have  worked with many of the greats, including 2pac, Raekwon and Hurricane G,  and recently released the album appropriately called ‘Release.’

-Sean Price and the Rockness Monstah from Heltah Skeltah, the rap duo  behind the esoteric sensation “Nocturnal,” an album released to much  critical acclaim.

Boot Camp Clik, a quintessential name in the black book of hip hop’s best,  has been causing violent waves on the underground radar for years. If the  name doesn’t ring a bell, you’d better get back to your lessons.

 JEHST
 *****
Certainly no stranger to the game, Jehst is recognized as being one of Low  Life Record’s strongest weapons, as he continually blows speakers and  minds. With a knack for telling a good story, Jehst’s songs encompass  profound, heated, evocative and poignant lyrics, illustrating a reflective  picture of youth culture. His projects constantly multiply, concocting a  variety of solo works in conjunction with his stacked collaborations with  YNR, Task Force, Braintax and Universal Soldiers.

 BRING IT BACK (TO BASICS)
 *************************
27 April not only marks the birthday of Kung Fu, but the party also  commemorates the upcoming launch of Harry Love and Verb T’s stunning LP  ‘Bring it Back (To Basics).’ Harry Love caught Tony Vegas’ eye at the age  of 15 with his stylish perfection of turntablism. After a brief stint as  one of the founding members of the Scratch Perverts, Harry went on to  perform and support the likes of Run DMC, Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, The Beastie  Boys, Alicia Keys and Talib Kweli. When not tearing up stages with his  turntable trickery, Harry is crafting together hits for Blak Twang, Jehst,  Killa Kela and the hailing smash ‘Murda’ with Klashnekoff. Pair up Harry  Love’s beats with the lyrical power of Low Life’s Verb T, and the result is  an LP that will undoubtedly infiltrate the clubs and charts: “Bring it Back  (To Basics).”

 GROWN MAN BUSINESS
 ******************
Scratch DJ extraordinaire Mr Thing is the most wanted name on every party  flyer. Even BBE Records had to recognize his royalty stat by titling him  with the crown of being one of the “Kings of Hip Hop” (alongside legends  such as DJ Premier). He often lends his turntable savvy beats to Yungun aka  Essa’s lyrical grace; together they form Grown Man Business. Yungun,  in-between recording his solo album ‘The Middle Man,’ has been flexing his  grip on the mic at a variety of places, firing out his slick vocal  deliveries at the MTV Party at Cannes (2005) and hosting the afterparty of  MTV Europe Music Awards. G.M.B. is the blistering combination of two  stellar forces, a hip hop musical feat that lies somewhere in the middle of  soul, funk and rare groove. Keep an eye out for their new EP coming out  later this year.

 RODNEY P
 ********
First entering the UK hip hop scene in the 80s (via the highly influential  London Posse), Rodney P has certainly been a linchpin of hip hop’s  development. His credits include working with the heavyweights such as NWA  and Soul II Soul, to his more current work with Bjork, Nitin Sawhney and  Roni Size, to the birth and rise of his own label (Riddim Killa Records, a  collaboration with Low Life) to his current fame at BBC’s 1Xtra.

 ITCH FM
 *******
At a time when pirate radio is sinking, Itch 105 FM remains one of the few  survivors that have remained afloat on the radio waves. As London’s only  station dedicated to hip hop, Itch FM amplifies all the hushed underground  voices, including Kung Fu’s own weekly show. Itch FM will utilize Room 3 to  showcase both the established and up and coming Itch dj's, with the voice  of the Friday night Kung Fu show, Teef, proudly hosting the room.

 SARAH LOVE
 **********
Sarah Love has been at Kung Fu since day one of its organic creation,  equipped with her distinctive blend of hip hop, rare groove and soul.
Besides being hand picked by MTV to lead their MTV Soundsystem tours across  Europe, Sarah has also supported Taskforce, Lewis Parker, Roots Manuva, The  Roots, Q Tip and Dilated Peoples.
